About Us

BEL Labradors is a hobby breeder of responsibly bred, healthy English style Labradors.
We are a homeschooling farm family residing in McBain MI, a dairy farm community.  We are a small hobby breeder and we strive to produce well rounded, healthy family pets that are bred to the standard. Our dogs are our family members and pets first. We typically only have 1-2 litters per year.

It all started 11 years ago when I started looking for a chocolate lab puppy and found one about an hour from my home. I didn’t plan to be able to bring him home, but fate, and a breeder who saw the instant connection decided otherwise. When I bought him, we were just looking for a sweet pet. We didn’t know to look into health testing and making sure the parents were rated with the OFA. Unfortunately our sweet little puppy was not well bred and suffered from hip and elbow issues from a young age. I had grown up in a breeding family so the idea of puppies and birthing was not a new idea to me even though I didn’t set out buying a Labrador with any intentions of breeding. After seeing what he went through we decided no other families should deal with that. 11 years of breeding Labradors later and we are hooked! We truly believe there is no better breed than the Labrador Retriever. We feel very fortunate and blessed to have been entrusted with the dogs and lines we have.

Our puppies are always raised indoors. We are very hands on with our puppies from the moment they are born, until the day they go home. They are exposed to children, adults, other animals, loud noises and many different textures to walk on during their stay with us. We chose to expose them to all these things to produce a well rounded pup that can go into your home with confidence, not fear of the unknown.

We know how much you want to come visit us and our dogs and puppies, but unfortunately we do not allow that. For the health and safety of our dogs and family, we feel like this is the best. We do not allow any visitors with our puppies until 8 weeks of age, after they are vaccinated. No exceptions.

Don't be duped by breeders trying to sell Labradors in colors such as "silver", "charcoal", or "champagne". These dogs are not purebred Labradors and are being registered falsely. Please see the clickable link for what the Labrador Retriever Club(LRC) has to say about "silver" labs. We are happy to provide more information. All BEL Labradors are tested and free of the dilute gene.
